Mein Ziel das Winterwunderland Niseko. Hier hab ich bereits vor einem Jahr den japanischen Pulverschnee schätzen und lieben gelernt. Wer einmal in Niseko war der kommt immer wieder. Dieses mal hatte ich mir 4 Tage auf der Piste gegönnt und Niseko von seiner typischen Seite kennen gelernt. Grau in Grau, hab ich vor einem Jahr den Mount Yotei mehr als einmal gesehen, war dies dieses Mal nur kurz der Fall. Das Wetter hat minütlich geändert, man konnte bei Sonne die Piste runterfahren und beim hochfahren sah man die Hand nicht mehr vor den Augen, vor lauter schneefall. In der Nacht gab es oft 40cm bis 50cm Neuschnee, genau für das ist Niseko bekannt ist.

Den Gipfel vom Mount Annupuri hab ich trotzdem 2mal bestiegen. Die Aussicht konnte ich mir denken. Den Mount Yotei hab ich aber trotzdem gesehen, bei einem Tagesskiausflug ins nahegelegene Rusutsu.

Nachdem ich im Netz verzweifelt nach Vergleichen zu den Skigebieten gesucht hab, hier meine persönliche Einschätzung. Niseko ist das bekannteste und ein Japaner hat mir im Lift erklärt das St.Moritz des Ostens ein guter Vergleich aus meiner Sicht. Das Skigebiet Niseko United besteht aus 4 untereinander verbundener Skigebiete Annupuri, Niseko, Grand Hirafu, sowie Hanazono. Man kann Tageskarten für ein einzelnes Gebiet oder für das komplette Resort lösen. Super gelöst ist auch die Verfügbarkeit von 5und8 Stundenskipassen, meist reichen 8h Skifahren aus, auch wenn das nachtskifahren extrem Spass macht. Annupuri ist relativ ruhig und hat eher leichte bis mittelschwere Pisten mit vielen Bäumen, der Ort hat selbst nicht viele Essensmöglichkeiten, respektive ist relativ teuer, günstig ist der Food court und das Restaurant an der Piste. Mein Favorit dort das Lunch Buffet für 2100 Yen (inkl. Tee, Wasser, Kaffee) im Northern Annupuri Resort, einmal essen und Man/Frau ist voll bis zum nächsten Mittagessen. Niseko hat etwas von allem ist geprägt vom Hilton Hotel. Aus Budgetgründen hab ich nicht an Essen ausprobiert. Die Skipisten bieten für alles etwas und hat relativanspruchsvolle schwarze Abfahrten, diese sind wie üblich nicht gepisted. Gran Hirafu, hier hatte ich diese mal mein Startpunkt, Ort mit Combini um mal was zu kaufen, viele Restaurants und auch das Nachtleben soll toll sein. Das grösste Resort, sehr viele Pisten, unten eher einfacher, oben etwas schwerer. Das Nachtskifahren ist genial und hat einiges an anspruchsvollen Pisten. Wer den Kick von leeren Buckelpisten, Baumskifahren und Tiefschnee fahren bei Nacht sucht kommt hier voll auf die kosten. Der beleuchtete Teil entspricht einem kleineren Schweizer Skigebiet.

Die Bäume sind etwas Dichter als in Annupuri was das tree skiing etwas anspruchsvoller werden lässt. Hanazono ist ein Gebiet mit 3 Sesselliften und diese lassen sich relativ gut fahren. Guter Backcountry Zugang, toll fürs tree Skiing. Grösster Nachteil, man darf oft laufen, da die unteren 2 Lifte eher flach sind. Essen ist ok, aber aus meiner Sicht überzahlt. Günstig Essen ist schwer gerade auf der Piste dort gibt es das Buffet, sowie leider ein erst viel zu spät entdecktes, kleines Restaurant in Hirafu oberhalb der Sessellifte mit günstigem Essen ist nicht auf dem Pistenplan vermerkt, man sieht nur ein Haus mit japanischen Schriftzeichen am Waldrand. In Gran Hirafu hat es 2 leckere und günstige Ramenläden,hier muss man früh für einen Platz kommen. In einem hatte ich als Dessert Tempura Eis, eine sehr leckere Kombination.

Die authentische italienische Pizzeria ist eine authentisch australischer Pizzeria nicht schlecht aber das Menü für uns gewöhnungsbedürftig und japanisch kann def. niemand.

Zu Rusutsu ein kleineres Skigebiet ca. 40min per Bus von Niseko entfernt.

Mein Favorit bis jetzt, die Pisten sind hier leerer als in Niseko und vor allem um einiges anspruchsvoller wegen der Steilheit. Für die Füsse angenehm, fast alle Sessellifte haben Fußstützen, während es in Niseko einige Lifte hat, welche keinen Sicherheitsbügel hat, findet man diese in Rusutsu nur sehr vereinzelt, zudem sind in Rusutsu mehr Pisten, gerade auch anspruchsvollere), gepisted,es ist eher CH Standard. Niseko hat mehr erlaubtes Backcountry (und ist in diesem Punkt äusserst liberal) gemeinsam haben beide, dass man den Mount Yotei bei gutem Wetter sieht. Hätte ich die Wahl, wäre als typischer Schweizer Durchschnittsfahrer ohne grosse Tiefschneeerfahrung würde ich nach Rusutsu gesehen und viele die ich getroffen hab teilen diese Meinung.

I arrived at the winter wonderland of Niseko. Already last Year I spent a few days in this powder snow and I really fall in Love with the famous Niseko Powder. If you have ever been to Niseko, you will probably come back again. This time I have a spent 4 Days in the days and made friendship with the typical Niseko Weather grey in grey. Have I seen last year a few times Mount Yotei, was it this year only once. The weather has changed from minute to minute. So on moment there was sun on the sloops and when you get back it was snowing. The advantage of this was I had nearly daily about 40-50cm powder on the sloops. I have been anyway twice to the top of mount Annupuri, the view from the peak I had in memories. I got the see mount Yotei on a daytrip to the closed by skiresort Rusutsu.

After I was searching in the Internet for a clear Information and recommendation about the resorts, I will provide you know some of my views:

Niseko is pretty famous and a Japanese guy told me on the chairlift that Niseko is St. Moritz of the east. The Resort Niseko Untited are 4 smaller connected ski resorts. Annupuri, Niseko, Gran Hirafu und Hanazono

You can either buy day tickets for one of the smaller resorts, or for the whole area. Great is also the idea of sealing 5hours and 8 hours ski passes, most of time you have enough after 8hours in the snow, even if night skiing makes a lot of fun.

Annupuri is a quiet Ski resort, most of the runs are easy or intermediate with a lot of trees. The Village of Annupuir has not a lot possibility to get food. The cheapest place are the food court and restaurant on the run. My favorite place in Annupuri is the Buffet Lunch at the Northern Annupuri Resort for 2100 Yen (including water, Tea, Coffee). You eat there once and you are full till the next lunch. The only place where you have a bottom of the mountain intermediate runs.

Niseko is more or less the Hilton Hotel just down the Gondola. For Budget reason I haven’t tried any food there. The runs are for everyone, below there are the easy runs higher up you have ungroomed black runs.

Gran Hirafu, this time this was my place to stay. A Village with Comibini a lots of Restaurant and according to my information a great nightlife. The biggest ski resort, a lot of runs, on the top pretty challenging runs. The Night skiing is here great and has a lot of advanced run. If you like empty bumpy runs, powder and tree skiing at night this is place to be for you. The night ski area is the small ski resort in Switzerland. The trees are closer than in Annupuri, so tree skiing is more challenge. Hanazono is a resort with 3 runs and pretty good. Great access to the Backcountry and great of tree skiing. Disadvantage below you have to walk a lot as it is very flat. Food is ok but overpaid. You get at the buffet place more value for the money. Eating on a budget is pretty hard on the runs. I just realized too late, that there is Japanese place just over the chairlift from the bottom. You just see a house at the trees with Japanese signs and there they serve good food. In the Town of Hirafu there are 2 delicious ramen stores, but you have to be early to avoid the Que. In one you get nice tempura Ice-cream. The Pizzaplace in Hirafu who tells that they are authentic Italian is authentic Australian It alien, these kinds of Pizza you don’t find on a menu in Italy. But they are good.

Rusutus a smaller Ski resort about 40 minutes by bus from Niseko away. The runs are empty and more challenging because they are steeper . Great is that nearly all chairlift have a there footrest and a safety bar. In Niseko the footrest is not common and you have more chairlifts without safety bar. As in Rusutsu there are more groomed trails (even intermediate once), it is more Switzerland Standard. Niseko has more Backcountry skiing. Both have a great view on Mount Yotei on sunny days. If I had the choice as a typical Swiss intermediate skier I would prefer Rusutsu and many other I have met think the same. In the Niseko Area I would stay again the Hirafu Area as there is a plenty of choice with food.

Transportation form the Airport to the Resort and back. Here I recommend the train if you like it cheaper. If you don’t care about the money then take bus it is just easier getting the transport from once place to the other.
